The first Stromer ST5 has arrived at Seattle E-Bike, and... IT'S GONE!

Sometimes things are worth the wait.  We certainly waited, longer than we expected for the Stromer ST5, and boy was it worth it.  We just built our first, and test rode it.  All previous Stromers relied on the same large powerful hub motor, but tuned to different outputs as the class of bike went up.  Even the tuning for the ST2S, was very conservative, as you might expect from the German Swiss builder. The ST5 has a larger motor, very conservatively rated at 800 watts. Ride it and you will know what we mean by conservative.  In general a powerful center-drive bike will out climb a Stromer, because of the hub set up.  No longer.  The ST5, which can easily exceed 30 mph if its computer is assured it is lawful, can climb the 16 to 20 degree slopes of South Main Street, easily in the low 20's with moderate pedaling.  How steep is that? Pretty much everyone knows Virginia Street, in the Market, between Western and 1st Ave.  That monster is 17 degrees.

My children still hate me, because the final exam on Dad's driving test, was to stop and go at the stop sign at the top of Virginia, on the 17 degree cobblestones with a car behind them, in the rain, with a stick shift.  If your kid can do that, and both of mine did, you can give them the keys.  I call it tough love, don't know what they called it.

Skip the car, buy and by this Stromer, it will flatten all of our hills, and most of the time get you to your destination well ahead of those poor devils stuck in their cars in the gridlock that our traffic has become.

Here are some pictures of the finer points of the new Stromer:

  • Hydraulic brakes cables are full of fluid, which is why they are called hydraulic.  Fluid can leak, air can intrude.  Much harder with the ST-5's new metal protected hydraulic joints.

  • Stromer listen to us and installed the Tektro quad piston hydraulic brakes on the ST-5.  Reliable, and they stop.  Fast.  Fast as a Stromer ST5.  Any resemblance to the Red Brembo Brakes on a Mercedes SL 550 AMG or other German and Italian rockets, is purely coincidental.
  • The superb derailleur that goes with the Tektro.

  • Flats happen.  They will happen much less often on these Pirelli tires. Wicked tough, a bike tire, built like a motorcycle tire.
  • The best horn set up yet.  People need to get our of your way.
  • The new brake handles allow you to take full advantage of the stopping power of the Tektro.
  • New integrated headlight switch, same old incredibly powerful Stromer headlight.  Do not look into this light, you will see dots on your retina for some time.
  • The new Omni central display.  It is probably smarter, they always are.  But it is definitely more beautiful, it is now in color.

Finally, the whole, magnificent, magilla.  Ladies and Gentlemen, we proudly present (ta da da da da da da) the STROMER ST5. The first is out the door in four hours, two more coming Tuesday, two more later next week.  Get them while they’re hot!

If you miss out, Stromer will air-ship you one, not for the usual $1200, but for $300.  They must have friends at SwissAir.  That is less than one third of the governor's cut.
