The E-Bike Evolution

Bicycles are more than a century old and the fundamental design has remained relatively unchanged.  This is for a good reason, attributable to its efficiency in harnessing our power, allowing us to move through our environment with minimal wasted energy.  Miraculous is not too strong a word in regard to the bicycle.  Transportation has evolved with the advent of the steamship, the train, the automobile, the jet, and even now, as we see commercial space flight boldly going where no one has gone before.  The bike still remains the most efficient, save for the ship, but you cannot take a ship down the Burke Gilman Trail! Simply put, bikes can go places that none of those other things can and an E-Bike is even better.  With the recent advents in battery technology adding up to a mere weight penalty of about nine to sixteen pounds, electric bikes are able to multiple the power of the human up to five times for the mildly athletic, three times for a Tour de France racer, and seven times for us ordinary weekend warrior schlubs.  Everywhere a bike can go, so can an E-Bike.  Commute comfortably without working up a sweat at up to 20 miles per hour on the flats.  Pedal up the ten percent grade of Queene Anne at 10 miles per hour without the exhaustive training it would take to win one's first Olympic medal.  You can also ride a fat bike up a snow covered ski trail and blast down in two feet of powder.  You can ride on sand, mountain trails, or just around the city, and with an E-Bike everyone in your riding group makes great time.
